Unorthodox Review ¿

Today I will be giving a bit of an unorthodox review. I will be reviewing my four years of college. Now just to clarify, this will not just be a review based on academia but rather a review on how college has changed me as a person.
When I went into college, of course I knew it all and no one could change my ways of thinking. I even went as far as to boldly claim that the way I thought as an 18 year old was the way I would think for the rest of my life as my mother often challenged my thought process with the notion that I would more than likely change my mind and views on the world. Sure enough fast forward about a year and many peculiar decisions and interactions later to my sophomore year where I began to take notice of things around me. I noticed that my education was merely a compilation of the same old methods: cram for a test, realize most if not all the information will never be used again, repeat. I noticed the people around me were going through the same cycles and never stopped to question why. Fast forward another year and a tremendously difficult break up along with months of finding myself and I began to notice more on a wide scale, things wrong in the world and an urge to want to do something about it. I began to notice emotions and patterns in people. Over the course of my four years in college, I transitioned from being self absorbed to self aware. I can only thank college for this enlightening phase as I firmly believe entering the adult world of 9-5 directly after high-school would mean to forgo this, despite my slight resentment for the education I was receiving.

To conclude my review I am reluctant to recommend spending absurd amounts of money for what we refer to as a traditional education, however, I do believe it was the best thing that could have ever happened to me as a person.

Must read link¿

As someone who struggles to accept the notion that “higher education” always results in a smarter individual, I have for you today a very interesting link to an article pertaining to such a notion(http://www.huffingtonpost.co.uk/2015/08/04/ernst-and-young-removes-degree-classification-entry-criteria_n_7932590.html?viksra). This article discusses how Ernst and young has decided to remove their degree classification entry criteria when considering hiring new recruits. Do not be fooled, this in no way insinuates that they will allow anybody to work for them, instead what this means is that they will be using other resources other than the typical GPA to determine whether a candidate is fit for employment. They will analyze the potential employee using online tests and will also use their past academic history in unison in order to determine as well. The message they are trying ot convey is that they do not believe academic history should be the sole qualification for obtaining a job with them, as well as academic history being a hindrance to job employment. The reason I decided to link this is that I believe it is not only very important as well as relevant to my blog, but I also believe other companies should move towards this method. It is sad to think that a determining factor in acquiring a job or just gauging general intelligence specifically comes down to GPA. I know a great deal of people who are incredibly smart, yet either struggled in school or decided to opt out of schooling at some point. The same goes for incredibly dumb people who have gone through years of schooling. The moral of this post is that knowledge comes from many other aspects in life other than school, and it is amazing to finally see a business adopting this train of though when considering new hires.

¿ Analyzes another blogger's post

Today I am going to analyze, or better yet, discuss another blog and give my two cents on it. The blog I will be covering is The Positivity Blog. I chose this blog in particular as it is, in my opinion, the closest in nature to my very random blog dishing out what I perceive to be intellectual life advice. While my advice ranges anywhere from emotional states to changing your ways of thinking, the positivity blog is comprised of blog posts that encourage, you guessed it, positivity! This blog promotes positivity, optimism and just overall positive well-being. As a person who has been told quite often that they possess very pessimistic traits, just reading a few posts in this blog such as “The Power of Gratitude: 5 Small Tips for a Lighter and Happier Life Starting Today” has allowed me to view life in a different light. If you are like me and very pessimistic by nature, every now and again it is good to at least attempt to venture off to the light side and see things more positively. I have also come to realize that this blog also parallels mine quite well in that it promotes generally the same thing I do such as how to prevent yourself from overthinking,  with similar goals. While my blog is more or less about thinking differently in general and questioning life’s mysteries, the positivity blog is geared towards self acceptance and enlightenment in that sense. In all, I highly recommend checking out The Positivity Blog as it may just make you an overall happier being. Until next time my anon friends ¿

READ THIS OTHER BLOG STAT ¿

As a perfect follow up to my last post and my top 3 things a budding intellectual should attempt, I bring to your attention a great article about 3 habits that you should pick up and utilize immediately(http://elitedaily.com/life/3-lifehack-habits/1183940/
). The first habit they mention regards taking risks and how you should tackle the decision whether or not to take said risk. The thing about risks as they mention in the article basically comes down to will you regret not going with it? If the answer is yes, then obviously you should not pass it up. If the answer is no, then you should obviously not endure it. However, id like to highlight the grey ahead. The “I’m not sure” or if you’re anything like me and extremely indecisive it is always “I have no idea what the right answer is”. In that case your best bet would be to consider the pros and cons, and if the pro side wins out by even one, do it. Next is a fairly simple yet quite interesting tidbit of advice: if you enjoy a piece that was written than you should write to the author and let them know. This is a habit that could greatly benefit you as you could quite possibly open up a plethora of future connections by simply giving kudos to the author that wrote it. This could open up many doors for you as anyone who puts out any type of written piece would love to hear from their audience(hint hint). Lastly, the final habit they encourage you to adopt is working without pay on projects that truly interest you. Yes, you should definitely have a steady job to support yourself, but you should also most certainly participate in projects that interest you in your free time whether paid or just volunteer work. Why? Well for starters you could be on the verge of a potential career switch if this side gig turns out to be lucrative, furthermore it will help you maintain sanity if you are working a rather mundane regular career that you may not fully enjoy.
Well, there you have it. The article above highlights 3 very interesting habits that I as well as the author believe you should adopt ASAP. Until next time my fellow intellectual beings¿

¿'s Top 3 Things Budding Intellectuals Should Attempt To Do

1. Find yourself
“What am I lost or something?!”, yeah maybe. How would you know if you do not attempt to actively find yourself? Piggybacking off my last post about clearing your head, have you ever stopped and truly asked yourself “who am I” with all the hustle and bustle of every day life going on around you? I would be willing to bet you have not. So, take a few minutes (preferably after clearing your head however you choose to) and contemplate who you really are. Then ask yourself, “do I like who I am”?

2. Make some sort of impact on the world
Now this may seem a bit irrational as you may be wondering how little ol you could possibly do that. However, making a change in the world does not necessarily have to be on a grand scale. Small gestures of compassion, kindness and understanding could make just as much impact as would going to a rally for your favorite cause. In a way it would be like paying it forward except the actual display of any of those three mentioned qualities could perhaps rub off on another which could then rub off on another and so on and so forth. The easiest impact you can make on the world is simply by striving to be the best you you can be.

3. Experience life, don’t just live it.
Yes, this seems extremely…flower power-ish but seriously this is the most important out of the three. I cannot stress enough how important it is to actually experience the life your living rather than just living it out. If that means to stop each day for a few moments and just fully take it all in, fine. If it means to get up, pack your bags and just take off, fine. Just do more than just live, experience this life because unfortunately we only get one go around with life. Unless you believe in re-incarnation, which in that case kudos to you and ill see you on the other side.
